The Magic, Majesty and Beauty of Antarctica

Antarctica — It lay undetected for most of recorded time, beyond the margins of the known world. Even after someone stumbled on it, its isolation and the rigors of the journey kept all but the most intrepid away. Those who did return ran short of superlatives to describe its magnificence. We go to Antarctica in a style undreamed of by those ardent early pioneers. But what awaits us there — the snowy, sentinel mountain ranges, teeming penguin colonies and stately parades of monumental icebergs; the sight of an albatross effortlessly gliding across an ink-blue sea and the unexpected rainbow of mist arising from a breaching whale — all of that is unchanged from the time before its discovery.

That is the magic of Antarctica, its timeless majesty and pristine beauty. Those who have seen it claim it’s impossible to adequately describe, that you must go yourself. Are you ready?

Along with their roles off the ship, Expedition Team members are part of our Seabourn Conversations program, and will regularly interact with guests throughout each sailing, sharing keen insights and in-depth knowledge about the history, ecology and culture of the region.

Flowing between Booth Island and the southern Antarctic Peninsula, Lemaire Channel is an exceptionally photogenic pocket of tranquil water and floating icebergs known as the “Kodak Gap.” Hemmed in by towering glacial cliffs, the narrow channel is famous for sightings of orca, minke and humpback whales and still, mirror-like water.

There’s no better way to experience the marvels of Antarctica than by kayak. Navigating breathtaking ice cathedrals and waterways too narrow for ships, you can dip your fingers into the water, feel the fresh spray of gentle waves on your face and witness penguins, seals and whales frolicking just feet away.
