“Everyone is In” Makes the Travel Industry Great
What if I told you there was a business practice that’s been helping Nexion grow for years – that it’s both a core principle and time-tested strategy that costs nothing to implement and only benefits us (as in all of our mutual success)? Based on this information alone, anyone who has ever run a business would probably tell you it’d be foolish to ignore it.
You’ll never hear me talk about politics here – you can’t make me – but I’ll always talk about what I know to be good for travel advisors and the industry at large. So, if you think that Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) is a political term, I’m inviting you to rethink that assumption. Because at Nexion, we’ve witnessed firsthand how integrating principles of inclusivity have enriched our business, making travel more accessible, authentic, and rewarding for everyone involved.
Reflecting the World We Serve
Travel inherently celebrates diversity, which is why so many famous travel writers have hailed it as the great eradicator of prejudice. Yet, to this day, many travelers face barriers that hinder their experiences. For instance, more than half of LGBTQ+ travelers still report having encountered some form of discrimination during their journeys. For understandable reasons, many travelers prioritize destinations that actively promote inclusivity. By embedding DEI into our business practices, we ensure that all travelers feel safe, seen, and valued.
For travel advisors, DEI shouldn’t just be a buzzword. Integrating it offers an opportunity to deepen client relationships, expand market reach, and practice humane values that align with the spirit of the industry. By understanding and addressing the unique needs of travelers from varied demographics—be it through accessible accommodations, culturally sensitive itineraries, or partnerships with inclusive suppliers—advisors can do what we do best, provide personalized experiences that resonate on a deeper level.
Building Upon the Spirit of the Industry
The journey toward a more inclusive travel industry requires commitment and collaboration. At Nexion, we’ve always been dedicated to continuous learning, fostering strong partnerships, and promoting an “everyone’s in” attitude across our network. By doing so, we not only enhance the travel experience for our he clients, but also contribute to a more equitable and dynamic company culture.
So no matter how badly some people in today’s world may wish to politicize or even demonize it, we at Nexion know that embracing DEI helps us unlock the true potential of travel: to connect, to empathize, and to celebrate the rich tapestry of human experience. So, let’s continue to champion inclusivity, ensuring that the wonders of the world are accessible and welcoming to everyone.
