Nexion Member Spotlight: Matt Walker
I am a full time travel advisor and an eight-year member of Nexion Travel Group. I am a father of four incredible kids, husband to my wife Samantha, and I call Charleston, SC my home. When I am not at my desk building vacations, I am taxiing children around town or exploring new destinations in the Caribbean or one of the world’s great rivers. My absolute favorite destination to visit… the Bahamas Out Islands. Place me poolside in the Exumas with a gin and tonic, thoughtfully infused with rosemary and grapefruit by the mixologist, and I’m a happy man.
In 2016, I turned the skill I was passionate about into a business. I founded a Travel Company offering the world to my clients. The company grew and later survived the pandemic thanks largely to a drive in Caribbean land-based vacations. After the pandemic, I redefined my company, rebranding into two highly niched brands, one for the Caribbean, one for river cruises. Since 2022, diversification into distinct brands and marketing them relentlessly, has fueled substantial year over year growth in my company.
Over the last eight years, I have learned several key lessons that helped me thrive as an Agency Owner.
1 – Attracting strangers is a requirement for exponential growth… friends, family, and referrals are only the start.
2 – Niching greatly simplifies all aspects of a travel business, from knowing the product, to sales and marketing.
3 – I surrounded myself and kept relationships with industry peers that embodied maturity and high function in their agencies.
Nexion has provided me with the resources and the networks to grow a multi-million dollar brand these past eight years. They’ve enabled me to earn top commissions, network with industry leadership, and advocate for all of us in the halls of Congress. Cheers to many more years of success for us all!
