12 Nov Why Active Duty Military Spouses Are Great For Travel Advising
When life constantly shifts under your feet, you learn to dance through it. It’s no surprise that members of military families often evolve into some of the most versatile and effective travel agents. Why is that, you ask? Let’s dive in!
Firstly, military families are pros at adaptability. They excel at embracing new environments and cultures, a skill that’s gold in the travel realm. It means crafting travel experiences with ease, insight, and creativity. Organization isn’t just a word—it’s a lifestyle. With years of practice planning relocations, military family members know how to map out seamless itineraries that cover all the bases.
Travel planning is about more than logistics. It’s about understanding the hearts and minds of travelers, and who better than those who’ve lived globally to offer cultural empathy? They craft experiences that are as empathetic as they are exciting.
Hear from Our Veterans in Travel Scholarship Recipients:
“What inspired you to transition from a military career to the travel industry?”
– “I have always loved travel and got the opportunity to see some fascinating destinations during my time in the military. After I left the military, I worked in the airline and aviation industry for many years, including 20 years with Boeing, and got to experience even more of the world. Once I retired from Boeing, I decided to join the travel industry to share my experience and my love of travel helping our clients with their travel plans.”
“What inspired you to transition from a military career to the travel industry?”
– “I’d never really travelled before my enlistment, and suddenly this boring girl from New Jersey is living in Washington DC, Hawaii, Iraq, Kuwait, Missouri… I learned that other cultures are as fascinating as our own and I just couldn’t get enough knowledge. How does this culture differ from my own? How are we the same? What do they find important? Do I agree? Once I went down that road, working in travel became inevitable.”
Ever cool under pressure, members of military families bring remarkable crisis management finesse to the table. If there’s a hiccup on your trip, they’ve got the poise and expertise to keep everything on track. And let’s not forget their networking skills. Years of moving around mean they’ve become masters at building bridges, which is essential for creating relationships with clients and travel partners galore.
